I love a good DIY, making spaces look better than before, and simple updates that completely change a space. This painted back porch has done just that. It took this area to a whole new level. And you know I did it on a budget.I had old paint in the garage so all I had to purchase was new brushes and rollers.
I wanted to get on here and show you all the in’s and out’s but guys seriously.. there isn’t much to this.
Simply use any paint to paint the color you want (this was basic house behr house paint) , wait for it to dry, and then use your second color to stencil, free hand, or tape (like I did) to add a little pattern or design. I first saw this idea on Nesting With Grace and then I was inspired again when Ashley from Arrows and Bow did it to her back step.
These little cosmetic changes are cheap easy and a perfect way to add a little life to your back porch or front porch!
The hardest thing about using painters tape was making sure I had straight lines. I measured from the middle of the porch out to make sure it was centered, and from the outs into the first tape line to make sure I had straight lines. I thought I would need to touch up the lines, but honestly I didn’t. they were almost perfect.
The only tip I would give when using painters tape is to paint and take off the tape right way. You don’t want the tape on too long or the paint will seep through. I also only did one coat of each color. I didn’t think it need another and was worried if I did too much paint it would easily chip. I am sealing it with an outdoor polyurethane. You could also seal it with an outdoor porch sealer. Home Depot has it for $28.
So there you have it! This is an easy way to update your back porch. Our new painted back porch is my favorite. You can catch me out here all summer.
