I have been chatting with you all about this wall for quite some time now. You know it’s my “problem space”, the area in my home that I can never get quite right…. until now. I found a budget friendly way to update this space and I am in love.
D. Marie Interiors is my “go-to” wallpaper company. They have every kind and every style of wallpaper you can think of for any space in your home. This particular one is called Maya Gray Leaf Wallpaper.
I have done peel and stick wallpaper, pre-pasted wallpaper (that you activate with water), and this current wallpaper was unpasted, so we had to paste the wall ourselves. I was hesitant at first, but it was so much easier than I though. D. Marie also have a wall calculator so you can calculate how much you need and the total cost of your project.
I did the wall myself, so this is a pretty simple project. You start by cleaning the surface of the wall. I purchased this paste from Amazon (to save myself a trip to Home Depot).
The instructions said to paste the back of the strip and then bookend the wallpaper. If you are unfamiliar with this method, you basically fold the back side (not the side that you would see on the wall) into itself by folding one half to the center and then the other half to the center so that both sides meet.
You let that sit for about 3 minutes. This allows the glue to activate and spread on your paper. You don’t want it sitting any more than this, as the glue can start to dry. Don’t ask how I know this…;)
While I waited for mine to activate, I used a paint roller to spread the glue on my wall in the area I would be stripping. Work with one strip at a time, working from one side of the wall to the other. I recommend working from left to right.
After the glue has been activated and you’ve pre-pasted the area on the wall that the wallpaper will be attaching to, work from the top to bottom. I always match the left wall with the top to make sure its level, feel free to remove and reattach as you go. It will not stick right away, which gives you a little wiggle room to get it right. After you have it attached to the wall, you’ll see bubbles. Use a credit card to smooth from the center of the strip outward to the edges.
I then used a small paint brush and lifted the edges and sides to get a little extra glue for more security on each piece. Lastly you’ll want to use a box cutter to cut the top and bottom strips.
When you add the next strip, be careful to measure the piece and match the strip with the pattern. You want to make sure it will match up perfectly with the entire strip next to it. Some wallpaper will instruct you to overlap a bit on each piece. This one only overlapped a tiny bit.
Corners, window trim, and odd angles are the hardest to get just right. Give yourself time to figure it out and ask someone for help if needed. Wallpaper is not nearly as scary as you might think. I highly recommend finding the perfect pattern for your home here. D. Marie has something for everyone!

This looks so good! I love the print you chose. How long did it take you to finish?
Thank you Ariel!! Only a couple of hours. The kids were in and out that day so I stepped away a few times, but overall a very easy project.
