4 Easy Ways to Transform an old Bathroom

Happy End of the week friends. You made it and I don’t know about you, but I always celebrate making it to the end of another week. This week was particularly refreshing as I begin to understand the importance of a well balanced schedule, and how truly freeing it can be to not say YES to everything, and spend the time I have diligently and intentionally.

Last weekend some of you know my kiddos went with dad, grandpa, and uncles camping for an entire 4 days!! You guys. I did not know what to do with myself. I spent a good hour at the beginning of the weekend just processing the fact that I was going to have all of that time. As a mom of two toddler boys under 4, I don’t usually have that much time to myself, and in a lot of ways, I wasn’t sure if I was even going to enjoy it.

Well I dropped that attitude quickly and decided I was going to make the VERY BEST of a alone weekend. I wanted to make sure It was going to be a balance weekend. I am an all or nothing kind of person, and sometimes I can do too much of one thing and not enough of the other. For instance, I tend to get too much sleep or not enough. Issues. I know.

So as I contemplated what I would do with ALL that free time, I decided I would revamp our bathroom, as it is one of the last rooms in our home that needs a little extra love.  The transformation in just one day was incredible. It feels like a whole new room.. and you guys. I only spent $5. (I had paint in my garage) If I didn’t, it would have cost $75.

Step One

Fresh Paint.

I painted this bathroom with Benjamins Moores Simply White. You’ll be amazed at what a can of paint can do to a space. It is my “go to” when revamping a space. Think about it … for $30 you can completely change the look of a room. This bathroom is super small so I knew white would open it up and make it look larger.

Step Two

Paint Floors

Now obviously this depends on your current floors. I had linoleum Vinyl flooring and it was super easy to paint over these bad boys. In a few weeks I will do a post about this process for me. I know you can paint tiles, and concrete floors as well. & Here is the stencil I used to paint them. (Remember Michael’s has an app and coupons you can get for any store)

Step Three

Paint Existing Cabinets

I couldn’t believe how easy it was to paint these cabinets. I used Linen White from Rust-oleum and sealed in with Miniwax Pliycrylic Water Based Protective Finish

Step Four

Frame in the old Mirror, or replace existing one.

I did this a few years ago, but I think it makes a huge difference in a space. If you have an old mirror that has no frame (a lot of older bathrooms were built with them), a cheap and easy solution is adding a painted frame to the edges. I bought the trim from Home Depot and glued it to the mirror using liquid nails.

Altogether and I am ecstatic about our new bathroom. I feel like we did a remodel… for a whole lot less.  The weekend ended with a new bathroom, time with my sisters and mom, and a perfect balance of rest, rejuvenation, and renewal, just in time for my little crazies to return and life to go on.

Happy Almost Weekend Friends.
